How scoring works, and the bar programs actually set.
There is no universal HESI A2 passing score. You get a percentage for each section you sit, and your program decides what counts: many publish minimums in the 75 to 80 percent range, some set a required average, and some set per section minimums on top. Competitive programs often admit mostly applicants who scored above their published bar. The only authoritative number is on your program's admissions page.
Each section is scored as the percentage of its questions you answered correctly. Programs then use those percentages in one of three common ways: a minimum per required section, a single cumulative average across required sections, or both. The same raw performance can pass at one school and miss at another, which is why comparing scores with applicants to other programs tells you very little.
When a program uses an average, one weak section can be carried by strong ones; when it uses per section minimums, it cannot. Find out which rule your program uses before deciding where to spend your study time.
Practice scores mean the most at the real pace and the real length. A 90 percent on ten untimed questions is a mood, not a measurement; a 78 percent on a full 50 question timed section is information. As a rough working ladder: below 60 means the section needs teaching, not just drilling; 60 to 75 means targeted practice on your missed topics; above 80 at full length and full speed means the section is ready and your time belongs to a weaker one.
The app's diagnostic and readiness view do exactly this arithmetic per topic and per section. The free practice test is the two minute version.
The usual culprits are math under time pressure and anatomy and physiology breadth. The fix is the same in both cases: stop mixed practice for a week and study only that section, learning material first, then drilling questions with explanations. Section focused study for one week moves a weak section further than a month of general review.
If your program averages sections, also check the cheaper win: raising an 80 to a 90 in your strong section is sometimes easier than raising a 55 to a 65 in your weakest, and it moves the same average.
What is a good HESI A2 score?
Above your program's requirement with room to spare. Many programs publish 75 to 80 percent minimums, and competitive admissions often land above the minimum, so treat the published bar as the floor rather than the target.
Is 75 percent enough to pass the HESI A2?
At some programs yes, at others no. Programs set their own minimums, and some weigh sections differently or require minimums per section. Your program's admissions page is the only real answer.
How do I raise my HESI A2 score fastest?
Diagnose which sections and topics are costing points, then practice those with explanations and a timer. Focused work on your weakest required section beats another pass over material you already know.
