Support — Ghost Detector: Real EMF Meter

Last updated: August 21, 2026

Ghost Detector is a novelty app with one real instrument inside it: the Field dial reads your phone's magnetometer in microtesla, against a zero you set. The radar and the whispers are mostly random, and the app's own How It Works screen explains the whole trick. It is for entertainment purposes only.

Why does the Field dial sit near zero?

That is the normal reading for a quiet room. The dial does not show the strength of the Earth's magnetic field, which is everywhere and would tell you nothing. It shows how far the field has moved from the zero you set, so a room where nothing is changing reads near zero. Walk the phone up to a speaker magnet, a fridge door, or a laptop charger and watch it climb. A very small number of phones have no magnetometer at all; on those the needle parks low and stays there.

What does zeroing do?

Tapping the zero button tells the app to treat whatever this room reads right now as silence. After that, the needle only moves when the magnetic field around you changes. Your zero is held until you set a new one, so the dial will not quietly drift it away while you watch. A zero more than six hours old is thrown away rather than reused, because a zero from another building would be meaningless here. Re-zero whenever you move somewhere new.

What is peak-hold?

It keeps the biggest change your phone has seen this session, so a moment you looked away for is still on the dial when you look back. Tap it to reset it.

Are the radar and the whispers real?

No, and we say so inside the app. Blips are drawn from seeded randomness, and the whispers come off a finite deck we wrote ourselves. Nothing you do to the phone can steer what a whisper says. The Field dial is the real instrument; the rest is atmosphere.

How do I remove the ads?

On the home screen, tap Remove ads. It is a one-time $2.99 purchase through Google Play that removes the banner and the interstitials. There is no subscription and nothing to cancel.

I paid, but the ads are back

Tap Restore on the home screen. It re-checks your Google Play account and re-applies the purchase, which is also how you move it to a new phone. Make sure you are signed in to Google Play with the same account you bought it on. If Restore does not find it, email us with the order number from your Google Play order history and we will sort it out.

Refunds

Purchases are handled by Google Play, so refunds are requested through your Google Play order history. If something went wrong, email us first and we will try to make it right.

Where do my journal entries live?

On your phone. Saved encounters are stored in the app's own storage, they are never uploaded, and uninstalling the app removes them. Sharing an encounter sends that one card to whichever app you pick from the share sheet.

What permissions does it need?

None that Android asks you to approve. There is no microphone, no camera, and no location in this app. The manifest declares internet access and the advertising ID permission, both for ads and analytics. The full detail is in our Privacy Policy.

It is not working

Try closing and reopening the app, and make sure your Android version is up to date. If the animation is heavy on an older phone, open Settings inside the app and switch Visuals to Lite. If it still misbehaves, email us with your phone model and Android version.
